MYKOLA TYMKIV – MASTER OF A WIDE CREATIVE RANGE – it is Valentyna and Ivan Molyniv’s narration about great creative activity of the wood carver, representative of Kosiv school of XX century artistic wood carving (1909 – 1985). He got professional knowledge in a school-workshop of a famous wood carver Vasyl Devdiuk (1923 – 1927), anda year later opened his own workshop in Kosiv. In 40s he carries out active social activity, creates “Hutsulshchyna” cooperative and in 1946 becomes a member of USSR Artist Union. In the master’s activity there are more than 1200 works, participation in a number of exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. One of the most outstanding events was the exhibition dedicated to the 70th anniversary from the Kosiv master’s birth in the Kolomyya museum of Hutsulshchyna folk art halls in 1979, where more than 100 works were exhibited. Mykola Tymkiv is a highly professional master of composition, famous for his ornamental motives of wood carving. Samples of peculiar for him main wood carving elements and motives, poker-work, bead incrustation and using of metal are kept in museums. The master paid a lot of attention to making artistic furniture, exquisite dishes, children’s toys, worked with metal and skin.
