LIUDMYLA MELNYK’S WORLD OF RUSHNYKS
The master comes from the village in Kyiv area. In her family all women were involved in embroidery. In 1965 she graduated from Moscow State Historical and Archive Institute. Liudmyla started her working career in Zaporizhia museum of native land, worked as a consultant in Znannia society, in regional state archive in Zaporizhia. She has never forgotten about a needle and canvass but only after retirement in a Snow-bal Tree embroidery club she started learning fundamentally the history, traditions and symbolism of folk embroidery of the southern part of Ukraine. The master gained embroidery technique and experience very quickly. Since 2000 she has participated in exhibitions, has a number of awards for her contribution to development of national culture. The art expert Sergiy Latansky analysis the master’s rushnyks that were awarded as the best at different exhibitions.
