Liudmyla Reshetniak, a teacher of a secondary school from Shulgivka area, tells about a real village intelligent Oleksandr Statyva from Petrikivka, and his devotion to folk art. In 1935 he sent to the exhibition to the State Museum of Ukrainian Art 100 samples of a local painting and the narration about their author. After the first folk art republican exhibition five masters from Petrikivka were awarded the title of a Folk Art Master. Then tens thousands of people admired their art at Moscow exhibition. But how to prolong the life of painting? Oleksandr Statyva initiated the opening of the children’s art school (the first in Ukraine) in Petrikivka, and became its director. The ma-gazine Folk Art writes about the work of a school-studio, its teachers and graduates, popularization of Petrikivka art.
