Straw Wonder
In June last year in Netishin, Khmelnitska oblast there was the All-Ukrainian Symposium “Straw Wonder”. Its main aim was reviving of wicker traditions and using traditional forms in everyday life and in formalism. 20 well-known and unknown masters from 9 Ukrainian oblasts participated in the symposium. At the final exhibition after a few days of discussions and a kind of a competition each master demonstrated his creative style, his abilities in working with a sunny stalk. The author of the narration is Mariya Kravchuk from Volyn, a famous master in straw wicker, known out of Ukraine, even in America. Ten days after the symposium Mariya Kravchuk told about successes of Ukrainian colleagues at the International Festival in a small Hungarian town Pichvard, where 65 foreign masters and 45 from Hungary took part. The Fifth International Festival of straw art might take place in Ukraine in 2010. For this event the masters are preparing interesting master-classes and exhibition of works.
