Volodymyr Tytarenko

Bar or Shargorod?

The album “Podillia Bowls” that appeared in 2007 in “Folk Sources” publishing house caused the discussion among the scientists on the topic of ascription rights of the bowls to Bar and Shargorod by the author of the Album. The matter is that earlier the majority of researchers of these bowls didn’t divide them and unanimously defined them as the Bar bowls masters. Among not a great number of publications about pottery in Podillia only in Prusevych’s works we can find a sole phrase that pottery was brought into Sloboda Murafska from Shargorod. A great number of files and samples found during the preparation of the album “Podillia Bowls” provided enough basis to Volodymyr Tytarenko for analyzing the styles of painting and other important factors and to prove that among the bowls categorically related in the past to the Bar style school there were such that belonged to another style school, conditionally named Shargorod school. Besides, the samples of this school have their own tradition of creating shapes, as well as technological peculiarities. The last two factors contribute to the idea of differentiation of the above mentioned schools. Volodymyr Tytarenko thinks it is enough to have these three factors to define confidently the bowls.
