He Built the Way to Experts in Art It’s a narration by Petro Nesterenko. PhD in Art, about a respectful Ukrainian expert in art of pre-Revolutionary time Kostiantyn Shyrotskyi. He was born in Vinnytsia area in the village that nowadays is called Vilshanka, Kryzhopilskyi region. Having finished Tulchynska theological school and Kamianets-Podilska theological seminary he became a student of Saint-Petersburg University (1906). At the same time he studied at the Archeological Institute. He spent three months in Italy, then taught history of Kyiv and Galychyna art in Petrograd University. He came back to Kyiv in 1917. His love to the past of his motherland united with the interest to the modern state of culture in Ukraine. The first works appeared in 1914. During the next last five years of his life the scientist and public figure wrote a lot of articles, research papers, books, in particular an outstanding book “History of Ukrainian Art”. |
