HUTSULY’S COOPERAGE TRADE HUTSULY’S COOPERAGE TRADE in the interior of Verhovyna settlement — is the topic of the honorable worker of culture Romana Kobalchynska’s narration. Cooperage trade as a subsidiary occupation of Hutsuly reached its peak in the XIX century. It is an original memory of material culture of the people that impresses by its technical perfection and high material qualities. The shop where the master made items of everyday usage is exhibited in the outdoor barn at “Hutsulshchyna” exposition. There we can see traditional cooper’s tools, billets etc., and in the house interior such items as barrels, chums, milk pails and others are exhibited. The author describes in details all stages of ware production and framing. The material is illustrated by a number of photos of these unique items and by a short story “Paskovets”. |
