The article by Yuriy Melnychuk, a kind of a report about the grant "Rare and Little Known Ukrainian Stitches", that he got from the Pennsylvanian Art Council in April — May 2006. By the way, it was already the third grant given by the American side during three years (see 'Folk Art" No. 3 — 4, 2004 and No. 1 — 2, 2005). Ukrainian community in the USA leads an active life and among them there's a married couple Nakonechny, who demonstrates deep ethnic roots. Their hut resembles a kind of a painting, sculpture, embroidery, pysankas, ceramics gallery. Pani Vira has mastered 20 stitches that belong to different rare and forgotten techniques. Mrs. Liuba Volynets, a well-known in America and abroad curator of Ukrainian museums in New-York and Stanford actively investigates Ukrainian art and has written a lot of articles on the topic. The author met her at Sorokhaniuks' married couple, who has been living in the USA about half of a century and saved their Ukrainian soul sharing their experience with youth.
