FOLK ICONS FROM BUKOVYNA The Institute for Collection Art Articles has been working in Lviv under the guidance of T. Shevchenko Scientific Association since 2003. Among the main aspects of its activity is organization of exhibitions from private collections to involve new articles into the art turnover. Last May In Lviv museum of religion history there was held the exhibition "Folk Icons from Bukovyna" that was the continuation of the presentation series of the collectors' domestic icons. For the first time there were exposed 80 items of images from Bukovyna. That exhibition has opened a new unknown page in the folk icon painting development. Oksana Romaniv-Triska thoroughly analyses those works, noticing that two techniques were spread at the same time — icon painting on wood and on glass. The peculiarity of wood icons is horizontal format, where a few plots are combined. Images on glass are mainly doubled, their topical combination is of an accidental character, though visually they create impression of a composition created in width. The exhibition proved the variety and originality of a folk icon. |
