MYKHAYLO KYTRYSH


MYKHAYLO KYTRYSH — a famous Ukrainian potter from Opishne in Poltava region, who marked his jubilee last year. Everyone who visited his celebration couldn't but feel a friendly atmosphere and took with himself a charge of energy of this great master, felt proud for his countryman, Victoriya Kokhan writes. Mykhaylo Kytrysh is a hereditary potter, taught by the most talented masters from Opishne, thoroughly mastered different pottery techniques, made a lot of experiments. In 1963 - 1996 he worked at the "Khudozhniy Ceramic" plant and since then has exhibited his works. In 1981 the master had the first personal exhibition —140 works. He has got a lot of awards and in 1999 became a laureate of the National Prize named after T. Shevchenko. Mykhaylo Kytrysh's works are the samples of modern folk ceramics. The master is searching for new compositional decisions, interesting plastic shapes. Though the master's creativity is based on traditional Opishne ceramics, one can't but feel his distinct individuality.
