A HALL IN ATHENS

Carpet painter Oleksandr Babenko tells the readers about the creation pf tapestry hall of Ukrainian Cultural and Business Center in Athens. He got a difficult task — a series of tapestries with a small gap had to cover the walls along the perimeter of a big hall. 12 articles with common stylistic signs had to unite inner interior ensemble, create an integral perception. In the same time every work had to present a final composition. The palette of expressive means is enriched by some components of a modern tapestry — elements of heraldry, plants, animal painting, humaniform motives, architectural silhouettes of typical Ukrainian erections. Traditional Reshytilovskyi ornament harmonically united everything.
