BOWLS AND THOSE WHO MAKE THEM
At the boundaries of millenniums Ukrainian people face a long-waited period of spiritual revival. Scientific research in humanitarian directions is becoming urgent, the level of its quality is considered. We watch burst of activity in art life, in particular in folk art. The album-catalogue "Bowls from Podillia", recently published by the publishing house "Narodni Dzherela", is a kind of attempt to describe a unique phenomenon in our folk art — energetic activity of hundreds and may be even thousands potters, who made bowls during the whole century starting from the middle of the XIX century till the beginning of 1930s of the XX century. This unique art phenomenon of ethnic culture of the people from Podillia was severely suppressed by mass collectivization in the village, which was the beginning of total mass genocide of Ukrainian people. According to the author of the research Volodymyr Tytarenko, the oldest bowls in Podillia area were made about six thousand years B.C. — archeological finds prove this fact. The basis of Podillia pottery was created by our forefathers from ancient times. In their creative activity XIX — XX century's masters kept and significantly developed formal art achievements of their predecessors. In Podillia area pottery traditions in making pots developed continuously.
