MARFA TYMCHENKO Under the heading "Our Jubilees" Marfa Tymchenko, member of the NUUP (National Union of Ukrainian Painters) and NUFAMU, People's artist of Ukraine, laureate of the Kateryna Bilokur Prize and the Ukrainian Prize named after Taras Shevchenko, a famous master of decorative art is honored. The art expert Vasyl Shcherbak covers in details creative activity of this remarkable artist from Petrykivka. Now she lives in Kyiv, but started her career in the art school of her native village under the guide of the teachers Oleksandr Statyv and Tetiana Pat, then went to the Kyiv folk art masters' school. Marfa Tymchenko worked at the Kyiv experimental ceramics and art plant, at the Korosten china plant. Then there was the war. Five times she managed to escape removal to forced works to Germany. After the war in 1945 she was offered to work in the Institute of Art Industry of the Academy of Architecture, folk art division. Marfa Tymchenko's creative activity counts more than sixty years. Reproductions of her pictures will make readers to be closer to the colorful fantastic world of our glorious Ukraine. |
