RUSHNYK FROM COSSACK LAND
Serhiy Latanskyi tells about rushnyk made by the master from Zaporizhia Svitlana Ignatchenko. The graduator from Zaporizhia machine-building institute worked as an engineer-constructor during 30 years, and only from 1991 has started careful revival of Cossack land rushnyk on the high scientific level. It was the then NUFAMU head Volodymyr Priadka who inspired her for this work. Svitlana Ignatchenko’s embroidery is deeply traditional, each composition is unique, bears a deep idea. In 1997 she was justly awarded the title of the grand master in the World Women Correspondence Championship at the congress in Argentina. The art expert analyses in details the master’s activity, leads the readers into the world of rushnyk – Ukrainian symbol that represents a kind of a table with the coded people’s world perception and world building for many thousands years.
