Natalia Stariuk

TURNING INTO A FLOWER

That is how Natalia Stariuk views a wonderful rural artist, who is officially honored and loved by audience. However, there’s a number of art critics’ somewhat abstract assessments of her works: “so, her art is still open for investigation” Born in Bohdanivka village, Kyiv region, at the age of ten already in Petrykivtsi, Dnipropetrovsk region, Ganna received letters-instructions from a famous artist Kateryna Bilokur to be her follower. Her creative personality was formed in “Vilna Selianka” (Free village lady) artel and then at “Druzhba” (Friendship) factory. She made wall-painting in accordance with certain patterns, put ornamental designs on plates and chests as well as participated in different exhibitions, presenting Petrikivtsi pictures. Ganna’s world perception is bipolar – seems that Bohdanivka village won over Petrikivka one in her soul. Flowers inspire her for painting. It’s impossible to perceive Ganna Samarska’s paintings, not taking into account Kateryna Bilokur’s influence on her.
