IN MEMORY OF BATURYN PEOPLE
An exhibition that was open in the NUFAMU on November 2, 2006, became a result of Folk Art and Decorative Painting All-Ukrainian Symposium that took place in June, 2006 in the former Hetman capitals Baturyn and Chyhyryn. Rada Mykhailova, an art critic, writes that folk masters did not just interpret our past events, but at the same time embodied both pride and respect to our heroes and the bitterness of losses in their art works. The researcher stresses a symbolic character, involving fantasy and narrative features, of the temporal topic of the masters’ works. The exhibition demonstrated that turn to historical past is an efficient mean of folk art influence on modern ethnic and social as well as cultural processes.
