In the villages in the south of Vinnytsia oblast along the Dnister river starting from Mohyliv-Podilsky region as far as to Baltskyi region Odesa oblast till recently there was kept a folk tradition of original embroidery of rushnyks. The originality of tradition is in unique compositions of ornaments, technique of embroidery itself. Ornamental compositions are in the focus of the article. They strike by the variety of graphic decisions and spiritual depth of content. Using limited number of motives the masters, thanks to a great variety of variants, managed to create a great number of original compositions. At the same time the folk tradition of rushnyks embroidery in this region followed one stylistic trend that was evidently formed in ancient times. The style formation was based on a strong ideological ground that led to amazing spread and stability of usage of the same motives. Folk creative activity was formed on the basis of canonical principles during many centuries and due to preservation of creative activity traditional canons, both formal and spiritual, has been preserved untouched in the course of time. This is the secret of its long life, that’s why any non-competent interpretation of composition principles or creative activity is inadmissible and dangerous for preservation of the purity of folk creative activity traditions. Nowadays this danger has acquired threatening scope that is constantly supported by general ignorance, which route grows from imperfection of academic programs in general educational schools.
