THE FOLK PICTURE — TRADITION AND MODERN LIFE Hryhoriy Mishchenko, an art critic, writes about a folk picture, how to make it not loose its authenticity and at the same time look modern. He thinks that the secret is in the plastic “na?ve method”. A folk picture has nothing in common with naturalism and realism. The All-Ukrainian Folk Art Exhibition in the “Ukrainian House” demonstrated that the Union members showed their orientation to both a traditional folk picture and modern trends. The author of the article proves his point of view on the Mykhaylo Onatsko, Ivan Novobranets, Ihor Horobchyk and Vasyl Zavhorodniy’s works. He also examines Oles Dorichenko’s works in modern style and considers them to be a subject of more thorough examination. The variety of individuals witnesses that the masters are aware of the modern trends and the Union is on the right way in solution of contemporary problems. |
