SINGING FLOWERS


Hîmeniuk sisters Iryna (1913 — 1989) and Sofiya (1921 — 2001), who made their native land famous by their unique paintings, were born in Umanshchyna, Viytivka village, in the family of a carver and a weaver. Iryna expressed the nature’s feelings through the flowers-dreams, flowers-thoughts. The sources of her inspiration were in folk art and wall painting. The younger sister Sofiya Hîmeniuk-Melnyk also took interest in painting. She is famous for thematic compositions more. The author of the article is the head of the Uman Regional Museum art department Tamara Gay writes about the sisters’ great contribution to national culture.
