YAKOV BATSUTSA’S PAINTINGS Yakov Batsutsa (1856 — 1933) together with his family (his wife and a daughter) made ceramic items — bowls, pots, plates — and painted them with engobes. The Batsutsa’s dishes shape is traditional but the paintings are innovative. He breaks the canons and principles of Podillia traditional painting. These paintings take us back to the ancient archaic forms of the world perception. They echo with the Trypillia culture paintings. The paintings presented in the article were made between 1908 — 1912. Ya. Batsutsa is the first of the glorious Ukrainian folk masters of the XX century, who was followed by Tetiana Pata, Hanna Sibachko, Kateryna Bilokur, Mariya Pryimachenko. The author of the article is Oleksandr Nayden. |
