Leonid Tovstukha, the People’s Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the National Shevchenko prize, is the head and the leader of Reshetyliv masters — tapestry makers, embroiderers and weavers. He created in his native factory for 50 years. Now he is 75. The master finished the folk art college in Krolevtsi and a year after he came to the Reshetyliv factory. There he started his working career as a master in the tapestry shop, then became a leading artist and the head of the factory. It was a difficult task to create in the art field while the factory worked on a self-repayment basis and had definite plans. Nevertheless the enterprise survived and was the first in Ukraine to master production of thematic tapestry and in a course of time became the center of their production in the former Soviet Union. Tetiana Koval and Vasyl Shcherbak give detailed information about L. Tovstucha’s creative activity. In the master’s collection there are over 140 ornamental and thematic tapestry compositions. Nowadays the master is full of energy and fills his works with modern flourishing.
