Mariya Korpaniuk

FOLLOWER OF A FAMOUS FAMILY

Vasyl Semenovych Korpaniuk lived lightly, vigorously, artistically. He came from the most famous woodcutters' family in Hutsulshchyna. His mother was a well-known embroiderer and weaver. Vasyl Semenovych was a great-grandson of the patriarch of Hutsuls' woodcarvers Yuriy Shkibliak. He started doing woodcarving since 14 and this helped him to earn a living. His works combine ancestors' traditions and their modern perception. According to Mariya Korpaniuk, his artistic and musical talent kept his soul flying as the two wings. Woodcarving prevailed over everything. After the World War II he was a participant of all folk art exhibitions in his motherland as well as in France, Bulgaria, Belgium and other countries. His works are the part of the world famous collections or museums. Vasyl Semenovych inculcated in his children the love to creative activity - in his son Vasyl (the honorable artist of Ukraine), daughter Marichka, and taught woodcarving his three grandsons - Yurko, Andriy and Semen. Hundreds of people visited the Korpaniuks' family museum.
