Poltava's regiment going to campaign. 2004. Hardboard, Oil. 45х65. |
FOR FUN AND SERIOUSLY Mykhaylo Onatsko writes about his way to art. Being a village boy he decided to be a painter. But his way was not easy. Even at school he had to write figures and posters on the red cloth. He was so tortured with this that in the army he told nobody about this ability. After graduating from the Poltava Pedagogical Institute he worked in different institutions and had a worn book for painting. Thoroughly, as Gogol (famous Ukrainian writer) he did drew his evil countrymen, but he started painting seriously only at the age of 46. The Folk Art Masters' Union, participation in the exhibition that took place in the Trade Unions' House changed his life. Mykhaylo Onatsko started learning folk traditions, customs, and rites. He studied thoroughly his countrymen and came to the conclusion that Gogol imagined nothing. Mykhaylo Onatsko in his pictures depicts the people from his village during fairs, Christmas and other holidays with humor and irony. |
