SEMANTICS OF UKRAINIAN EMBROIDERED RUSHNYKY SEMANTICS OF UKRAINIAN EMBROIDERED RUSHNYKY - is a completion (beginning in # 27-28, 2004) of Yuriy Melnichuk's, a folk art master, research on extensive information contained in fabrics and embroidered rushnyky, accumulated by Ukrainians in the heart of material and spiritual culture. The author continues his research in the following chapters: numbers' semantics, traditional ryshnyky's designs, their main symbols and sign systems, contemporary ryshnyky application. In spite of hard historical past, our people preserved till present precious treasures of traditional culture, which are of great interest not only for Ukrainians, but for other peoples as well. Among those treasures Ukrainian rushnyk occupies one of the leading positions as it serves as a certain link between the past and future. It is our memory. Illustrations presented in the article have been kindly granted by the Ivan Honchar Museum Ukrainian Folk Culture Center (Kyiv). |
