Mask by Mariya KRAVCHUK "Mavka". |
ONE CAN HEAR THE NOISE OF RYE ONE CAN HEAR THE NOISE OF RYE - is a self-portrait of honorable fine arts teacher and the NUFAMU member, straw braiding master Mariya Kravchuk. Rye is her flower, her mascot, her creative work. In her hands rye, being a divine material born by Land and Sun, water and wind, turns into a perfect hand-made beauty, inspired by love for people, nature, customs and traditions of Ukrainians. Being a participant of numerous straw art exhibitions as well as international festivals, her artworks are known and valued by the masters from Byelorussia, England, the USA, Netherlands and Belgium. In 2004 she participated in the Myths and Legends straw masks Internet contest and international festival and won the first prize for the mask called Mavka. Her pupils won one more first as well as jury's prize that had been announced in American Masters' Guild Magazine. Mariya had a hard childhood and her parents had a terrible life as they'd experienced German concentration camps' terror and afterwards exile to Siberia. She writes about her village burnt down by Germans and 122 countrymen killed by the latter. The village was famous for weaving and the best masters were her relatives. One can hear the noise of rye… |
