DECORATIVE PAINTING IN STAROKONSTAINTYNIV REGION


Wall paintings and pictures became the focus of Oleksandr Pazhymskyi's story, a Director of Samchyky State Historical and Cultural Natural Reserve that is located in Khmelnytsk region. Being an artist himself, in love with the beauty of pictures' lines, with harmony of picturesque forms' rhythmics, the author researched decorative painting of the region and tells the readers about local peculiarities of paintings on huts both outside and inside. By the way, the inside pictures used to be more various and colorful. A chimney flue of the oven, which was whitewashed and painted several times a year, was in special focus. There was a good combination of practical expediency and aesthetic expression in the premises artistic design. The author dwells on the main motives of paintings on huts as well as on appearance of paintings on separate pieces of paper so called maliovky (pictures) in early XX century. In 60s of the last century in the village of Samchyky the union of masters appeared, the ones who started to revive maliovky considering the local traditions of the past. The article is illustrated by their art works.
