VASYL SIDAK FROM TRANSCARPATHIAN REGION


The analysis of a talented carver creative work is the topic of Hryhoriy Mischenko and Yevhen Shevchenko's article. According to them, appearance of such creative individual is predetermined by a specific time period. His art works accumulate everything that was peculiar for carving of ancient times in his region as well as modern perception of tradition and its interpretation in creative art works. That can be immediately grasped, say, from the representation of essential being realities of the region. Reproducing people's figures, their peculiar proportions, the carver follows traditional wood carving techniques. However, in plastics as well as means of carving one can see academic and classical sculpture features. Vasyl Sidak is a member of two creative National Unions, Artists Union and The National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, so his high class professionalism is combined with high profile works of national carving. By the way, he was Ivan Harapko's pupil, the pupil of famous Ogiust Roden. Themes of his art works are quite various - Transcarpathian reality pictures, perpetuation of sacral instantaneities, etc. Among the master's round plastic works one can find his one of the famous pieces called Payi, which reflects the combination of folk tradition, professionalism and individual self-expression culture.
