This topic from the point of view of Yuriy Melnychuk, senior scientific worker of the Ukrainian Center of Folk Culture "Ivan Honchar Museum", will attract attention of many readers. The article appeared as a report on the work in the frame of the grant that took place last year in Philadelphia (the USA), and the Pennsylvanian art fund gave it for spreading knowledge on Ukrainian rushnyk. In the heart of traditional material and spiritual culture Ukrainians have accumulated a great massive of information in textile and embroidered rushnyks, and thus become interesting for the whole world. There planet and space genesis, creation of a Human being and other forms pf life are fixed. The author studied this topic in details and represents it according to the following chapters: a rushnyk is one of the most interesting sacral subjects; spinning of needles and weaving of textile for rushnyks; the role of a needle and a thread; preparation for embroidery, its beginning, stages and the end, semantics of colors etc. The illustrations are from the museum collection. The publication will be in several issues.
