Marking the active spirit life of Luhansk region at the beginning of XX century, Lidiya Borshchenko, an art expert, at the same time states the lack of chronicle about the regional art life, the absence of art research in the fine arts and folk art. We get greater idea and knowledge on the subject due to the works of the outstanding investigator of Ukrainian antique Stefan Taranushenko, in particular, his monograph "Monumental Wood Architecture of the Left-Bank Ukraine" and "Notes on Traveling across Slobozhany Area in 1927 - 1928" that were saved in the scientist's archive. The photos of peasants' houses, wind mills, barns, a church, an icon, examples of houses paintings and so on made during the expedition have also been saved. There we can find interesting pages about the Starobilshchyna and Smolianykov areas etc. The young researcher's ingenuous interpretation of these monuments, their sketches and deep analysis prove his keenness on his job and unlimited devotion.
