SIVERSHCHYNA ART

(p.10) In the framework of the second All-Ukrainian Folk Art Show in April 2003 in the exhibition halls of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine (the NUFAMU) the Folk Art of the Chernihiv Region: Wood-Carving and Withe Wicker-Work exhibition was opened, at which art works of the leading masters and young people of the region were presented. Andriy Koloshyn's art works played a noticeable role in revival of Chernihiv wood-carving. His son's and his numerous chests, plates, bowls in their shapes and ornamental designs recreate the best traditions of Polish wood-carving. Novhorod-Siversk school represented some more good masters. Oleksandr Kolosha and his pupils' art works became the basis of the Chernihiv wood-carving school development, and their works were represented at the exhibition in a worthy manner. Masters of folk wood-carving of the Center as well as students of vocational school catch up with the skills of experienced artists. The masters of withe wicker-work of the region did not lose their creative potential as well. The most interesting art works were shown by the brothers Volodymyr and Serhiy Shlionchyk. The Head of the Center Volodymyr Moroz told about embroideresses' art works as well, particularly about the ones by Hanna Hryhorenko, Kateryna Karashchuk and Nataliya Cherniak.
