Crimean-Tatar Tapestry (page 50) is researched by Mamut Churlu, expert of arts. The information we have about the weaving of Crimean weaving is extremely poor. Researcher Badadynskyi considers tapestry collection that came in 1927 to Bakhchysarayskyi palace to be produced in Crimea. Churlu examines arguments in favor of this point of view and relies on his own researches made in 1988 in Fergana, where Tatars temporally lived and where Crimean and Tatar tapestries were found, that hadn't been known to experts before. In 1994 the author was in charge of the expedition to Sudak region in Crimea, where about 80 of new objects of Tatar folk weaving were made photos of, as well as materials on tapestry production under deportation conditions were collected. Conclusions: 1) ornaments and principles of prewar and postwar Crimean tapestry have not been changed, 2) tapestry ornaments are identical to Cyprus linen rush-nyky ornaments, 3) the oldest samples were painted by plant colors, 4) new centers of weaving have been determined. Crimean and Tatar tapestry according to its technical and artistic features can compete with the products of tapestry centers abroad. Last years it was represented at a number of exhibitions and fairs. |
