One Village Art


(page 6 ) From 10 till 24 February, 2003 in the building of NUAFMU the exhibition of Traditional Culture of Bubnivka Village, Haysynskyi district, Vinnychyna, took place. Besides a famous Bubnivka ceramics, there were also exhibited carpets, woven towels, embroideries, paintings and ... a folk song, performed by a folk group. Vdovtsov, the former director of the company Bubnivska Ceramics, has created a powerful material and technical basis that provides possibility to produce a high quality technological product - dishes, souvenirs, decorative building material. But nowadays the company urgently needs investments. During the last 7 years in the village the Union together with oblast Cultural Department and Folk Art Center carried out several successful potter's symposia, that gave the possibility to participants from all regions of Ukraine to gain advanced experience. The art expert Volodymyr Tytarenko focuses his attention on the work of some masters and summarizes that exhibitions form the series One Village Art are a successful sample for folk culture demonstration as well as a push for its further development.

The Herasymenko's Garden

Tetiana Shpak, director of Novoseliv museum-garden of the famous brothers-potters in Haysynskyi district, Vinnychyna, started her narration from the first quarter of the last, but one century, when Andriy Honchar was born - later a good master, who was one of the first to use polyva (a new special technology) and tried to paint with engobe. Ahafon Herasymenko, Yakym (1888 - 1970) and Yakov's (1891 - 1969) father, who involved his sons into pottery, worked with him. The elder son was good at forming, and the younger one - in painting. In 1935 in Lavrska school an experimental shop was created, where these masters worked during three years. The works by these masters got a high mark at the I All-Ukrainian exhibition. They were exhibited in Paris, New-York, Moscow, Leningrad. Their names were entered into encyclopedia. The shapes of dishes and variety of ornament, exhibited in the museum, impress greatly Besides ceramics, embroideries, homespun clothes, table clothes and other things are kept in the museum. Frosyna Mishchenko's pupils, the Herasymenko's niece, continue business of great masters.
