Andriy Pikush, Head of the Board of Petrykivka Folk Art Center, touches the problem of saving and development of Petrykivka decorative painting, as during the whole history of Ukrainian people traditional art was also a wonderful relic of its self-saving. The totalitarian regime has ruined the foundations of historical way of people's living, as well as a free market - economic scales of folk art development. Only 15 out of a great number of painting centers are left in Ukraine. Among them is Petrykivka. In 1936 in the village a two-year school of decorative painting was established. The school existed till 1941. Its graduates, pupils of great T. Pata, contributed considerably in painting saving, they were looking for the ways of its entering into the real life. After the war the best masters initiated implementation of this art into industry, architecture, polygraphy. The plant Petrykivskyi Rozpys was founded in 1958 under Fedor Panka's guidance. At this plant, in spite of mass replication and ruining of handicraft, talented masters managed to save their creative image and brought up young successors. In 1991 the author established an enterprise of a new type - Petrykivka Folk Art Center. After declaration of independence, because of ruining of economy, absence of state support, the factory and experimental shop stopped operating, some private structures also couldn't oppose difficulties. 2/3 out of 170 masters lost jobs. The author outlines definite ways of providing assistance to the carriers and creators of folk tradition, speaks about elaboration of state concept, as well as the Program for folk art saving and development. |
