MAKARIV YAR CERAMIC SCHOOL

From 1926 till 1935 in the village Parkhomenko (till 1951 - Makariv Yar) Krasnodon region there was ceramic handicraft and industrial school that had a forge, muffle furnace and 15 potter's wheels. Pavlo Dubynskyi was its soul and organizer. Here youth under the supervision of experienced masters learned to make mostly decorative ceramics: vases, panels, etc. In spite of a short term of its existence the school left positive trail in the pottery art development in Luhansk oblast. In 1935 the school was converted into a workshop in Luhansk, but after the arrest of its manager it was closed. Svitlana Lytvynenk,o being in ethnography exhibition in the area, met the former pupils of the school who told her about their years of study. In general people were involved in pottery in this village from ancient times. It is known that in 1885 there lived 239 potters and they made dishes for the whole area.
