Viktor Furman, head of the Poltava Folk Art office, writes that Oleksandra Velykodna was the master who immortalized Poltava area, the whole Ukrainian state by her embroidery. Oleksandra Velykodna was born not far from Opishnia, Poltava oblast. She became an orphan after 1933, worked three years in Opishnia art embroidery studio, but because of poverty in 1938 went to Poltava. From 1968 she worked as a master in "Poltavchanka" art factory, designed paintings for blouses, shirts, table clothes, serviettes, clothes. The master was a participant of hundreds of exhibitions in Ukraine and the former Soviet Union. Her unique works were exhibited in Paris, Marseille, Brussels, Moscow, Tokyo, Canada, and the USA. Her 60th anniversary and 800th anniversary of Poltava the master marked by her first and last exhibition, where 200 works were displayed. She is the author of 700 samples of traceries. Oleksandra Velykodna died in March 2002 but the memory about her and her talent lives in people. |
