AND THE SONG IS RINGING IN COLOR

The Ukrainian rushnyk (a towel with colored embroidery) is a sincere story of our people, reflection of his thoughts and hopes. The old image of a flourishing Ukraine was formed in a famous Petrykivtsi village in Katerynoslav area (now Dnipropetrovska oblast) on the grounds of Zaporizka Sich. The first inhabitants were from Poltava and Kharkiv area. Thus, local embroidered rushnyk reflects beauty and generosity of a vast Prydniprovska steppe. Zaporizhzhia Art Museum keeps 44 rushnyks from Petrikivka dated back to the end of XIX - beginning of XX centuries. Tamara Honcharenko, expert in art, who works at the Museum, has told about the history of this collection and its artistic peculiarities, diversity of decorations and different motives.
