(page 18). A person celebrating his 60s anniversary is Volodymyr Priadka, the Chairman of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine as well as the Honorable Artist of Ukraine. This wonderful person is a Corresponding Member of the Arts Academy as well as the editor-in-chief of the "Folk Art" magazine. On the occasion of his 60s anniversary we publish an article by Ilia ZIobina about the unique wall-painting, that the artist has completed in December, 2000 in St. Michael's Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv. He worked on the wall-painting of Deacon in the altar part of the cathedral as well as jointly with another artist Olena he's done wall-paintings on the Northern Wall of Barbara's Wall and a part of a crypt. The wall-paintings are made in the Ukrainian Baroque style. Through the images the artists had to show symbols of Christianity. Such images as "Saint Trinity", "Christmas", "The Christ and Nykodym", "Martyrdom of Saint Barbara", eight images of angels with the instruments of the Christ's torments possess so powerful and deep spirituality, that visitors of the cathedral get enchanted by them. The artist has perfectly embodied spiritual beauty in the images. |
