FEODOSIY SPOLITAK CARVES WOOD

The reader gets acquainted with the creative output of this gifted carver through an article by art critic Serhiy Latanskyi. Back in his childhood, the original master felt his inclination to Beauty and strove to learn the ABCs of fine art through his own efforts. Later he started attending courses for artists-designers at the House of Folk Art in Zaporizhia and participating in republican exhibitions of folk art. His further years were associated with Zaporizhia. Being a "Jack-of-AII-Trades" metalworker at the transformer works, he remained a regular participant in oblast and republican exhibitions. His most favourite material is wood, and his outstanding talent as a carver reveals itself in the decoration of Cossack smoking pipes ["liulky"]. Fedir Spolitak also restores and enriches ancient folk carving traditions. His talent as an unprecedented carver and master of composition was fully implemented in complex capital work: the Ukrainian baroque style iconostasis he made for the St. Nicolas Church in Zaporizhia.
