MASTER OF THE BUKOVYNA CARPETS The artistic ouvre of Ivan Pastukh, carpet-maker, became the object of research for Adam Zhuk, a doctoral student. Zhuk tracks Pastukh's formation from 1945, the year the first carpet workshop in Bukovyna was created in the village of Ataky of the Chernivtsi oblast, and later relocated to the town of Khotyn. After his studies, Pastukh founded carpet production workshops in Kolomiya, Kuty and Zabolotiv in the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, and then came back to the Khotyn workshop. He was a chief artist there, and thanks to his efforts, the workshop became famous all over Ukraine. The artist-innovator created over 60 original models with refined ornamental forms and color combinations, and, at the same time, he followed local artistic traditions and the folk style. Ivan Pastukh also founded a tradition of thematic carpets in Bukovyna. He created models of works for the interiors of modern premises. |
